Craving A New Project ...

A few weeks ago I went to Santa Fe and documented the trip for my friend Dilshani who couldn't join us as she was just about to have surgery. If you missed it you can read about that trip here. It was during this trip that we met Amor, the name behind the new and fabulous yarn line, Crave Yarn. She was having a trunk show at Yarn & Coffee the day we went. Truthfully, the reason we went that day was because of the trunk show and we all wanted to me the face behind the name. This is Amor...

She was warm and welcoming and very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about her product. Mom bought enough yarn to CO Big Damn Heroes which, by the way, she is moving right along with. It looks incredible in Amor's yarn in a colorway which I believe is called "High Desert Plains." Betty bought her out of one colorway entirely but that's very much The Betty Way. Amor and I discussed collaborating on a project together. She had a colorway I fell in love with called "High Tea With Elizabeth" (and anyone who really knows me knows how perfect of a colorway name that is for me to be working with!) but didn't have it available in a base she wanted me to work with. I was so excited to get going on this project I was basically all ready to go when the yarn arrived. And the yarn arrived 2 days ago. It was packaged beautifully. She had my skeins sealed in a plastic bag and in the bag with my yarn was a tiny little package of stuff to keep the yarn dry and fresh. I was so impressed with this. I have never purchased yarn before and had it shipped to me like this. The colorway, High Tea With Elizabeth, is beautiful. Light tan with subtleties of grey. Its just gorgeous...

Also, she had attached 2 stitch markers to her labels for me...

Isn't that nice?! The presentation was just so nice. Nicer that any other yarn I think I've ever received before. Let me just tell you about her labels too. See how nice they are?! They are hard plastic and on the back is name of the colorway, the lot number, the name of the base and its contents, care instructions and their website...

Its the presentation and the small things that make this yarn really a step above many others. I highly recommend going to her website and placing an order. Everything she does is exceptional. Anyway, when it arrived I grabbed the ball winder and practically ran to the swift so I could cast it on immediately. I had charted out the center spine and was ready to go. I knew I wanted something dramatic, lacy and feminine to go down the center back of this shawl. I cast on and in a short time it looked like this...

I am absolutely in love with this center spine. By this evening it looks like this...

It has all the qualities I was looking for and looks so good in this yarn! I will be able to share with you the progress of this shawl as it is one I will be releasing myself. It isn't under lock and key like Teaberry! Gosh, I cant wait for that to get released, but I digress. I love the little cabled sections with the faggoting in the center, I think that is so lovely. It's almost sexy. That element will be included in the knitted on border whenever I get to that part! I will keep you all posted on how its coming along.

Sunday afternoon my folks, Betty and I got a chance to see my Aunt Bev and Uncle Bill who live in California. They were traveling from CA to TX to look at purchasing a travel trailer. They do a lot of camping and have their whole lives. They no longer want to rough it and I cant hardly blame them at their age. Hell, I couldn't rough it now if I wanted to. We all met for lunch at Monica's El Portal near Old Towne and are hoping for another visit on their way home but they aren't sure if they'll have time. Here's my Mom and my Aunt...

And my Dad and my Uncle Bill...

It's always really nice to see them. The last time we saw them was at my parents surprise 50th Anniversary party when they came all the way from CA for the one night event and then turned right around and went home because my Uncle had to work. Before that it had been at least a year or more since we'd seen them. I hope they are able to stop on their way home this time so they can get a chance to meet Audrey Grace! She has been especially photogenic lately. Sometimes she'll lay on her back with all fours in the air and up until now I hadn't been able to get a picture of it...but I finally got one...

So cute! For the first time I'd seen, she climbed up on the top level of the banco and I got a great picture that, with the white background, looked professionally planned...

Yesterday my best friend Dilshani and her family gifted my lovely Audrey with a catnip chili pepper! I gave it to her when I got home late last night and she LOVED it. She rubs it on her face and then tries to kill it. So funny. I took a couple pics and sent them to Dilshani so she would know just how much Audrey appreciated her gift!

Believe me, she loves this little chili pepper! And how appropriate for a New Mexico kitty! I will keep you updated on the Crave project I am working on and anything else I get myself into. I hope you are all having a wonderful Monday evening. Me, I'll be watching 'The Blacklist' here in just a minute. I have an ongoing love affair with James Spader. It doesn't matter what he's in, I'll watch it and I'll love it. Boston Legal is one of my favorites shows ever and I own it all on DVD. Knitting and James Spader. And chocolate. It doesn' get much better than that! Have a wonderful evening and start to your week. I'll see you back here soon and until then....Knit On!
