Craving a Trip to Santa Fe ...

Happy Tuesday everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying their Tuesday. It's beautiful outside but I will spend it inside today resting. The past couple of days are catching up to me and I'm very tired but I wanted to get this blog post written before I went back to sleep!

Sunday afternoon me, Mom, Aunt Betty and Roxane went to up to Santa Fe to go to Yarn & Coffee for the Crave Yarn Trunk Show. Crave is a wonderful new indie dyer that is turning out some really fabulous stuff. Very beautiful tonals with such depth your eyes just plunge right into their color. I documented this trip especially for my best friend Dilshani who had surgery yesterday and therefore was unable to take the trip with us on Sunday. I wanted her to feel like she was with us every step of the way and not missing anything. Good thing for everyone else is it makes for a good blog post too! Anytime I go road tripping anywhere I start out with a photo of myself in the car for my Facebook page. I'm not sure why I do this only that I do. For all I know people are sick of seeing me. But lets remember, this trip was about Dilshani joining us virtually which is why I took so many pictures...

I made sure to wear a shawl of my own design because one of my goals with this trip was to talk to the owner of Crave Yarns and see if perhaps she might be interested in a collaboration of some kind. Our first stop along the way was to Kakawa Chocolate House but we ended up being a bit to early and they didn't open until noon. I took an opportunity to take some pics of the four of us. Here's Mom and I...

Funny thing, almost all the pics I take with my Mom, she stands back just a bit which makes me look like I have an abnormally large head. I don't really, at least I don't think I do. Then there's Roxane and I...

And with Aunt Betty (my personal fav)

Instead of waiting for Kakawa to open, we went on to lunch and decided we would come back later in the afternoon. On this trip to Santa Fe we decided we were going to eat at The Pantry for the first time. Yarn & Coffee is conveniently situated behind it so we thought we'd give it a try. Omigosh. It was amazing. I had stuffed french toast and biscuits and gravy...

I cant remember what everyone else had only that everyone was lip smackin' happy about their meal. After taking in this amazing lunch we meandered over to Yarn & Coffee for the Crave Trunk Show...

The moment we walked into the shop we were greeted by the owner of Yarn & Coffee and the person behind Crave Yarns, a lovely woman named Amor. How fitting for how we all feel about our yarn!

Let me just throw up the pics of her stuff because the photos speak for themselves....

Isn't this stuff amazing?!! I wanted 2 skeins of everything to go, please. She was so excited when we arrived which was exciting for me. Deborah, Yarn & Coffee's owner had been telling Amor about us and about my design work so she was very excited when she realized who we were when we arrived. The more Amor and I began to talk and get to know one another a bit, the more excited each of us became with the thought of working together. I took my latest shawl design I just finished, which sadly I cannot share with you all here, and she loved it. She was going to email me in the next day or so and asked me to think about colorways I'd like to work with. Amor has this AMAZING colorway called 'Tea with Elizabeth' and its so fabulous....definitely my first choice. We are both very excited at the thought of working together. Here we are together...

I adore this pic of the two of us together, the light in Amor's eyes certainly captures her spirit and personality. Mom bought 3 skeins in a colorway called 'High Desert Plains' so she can finally cast on Big Damn Heroes. Betty bought her out of one colorway entirely, I cannot remember the colorway. Because I am going to have an opportunity to work with Crave Yarns through a collaboration, and am a bit more strapped than my other shopping partners, I selected some different yarn. I turned my attention to some Lorna's Laces Shepherds Sock. It was the yarn I used way back when I did Cornwall Coast last year and it wears SO well, doesn't pill at all or anything. Its wonderful stuff and I hadn't had a chance to work with it again yet. I have also been trying to choose colors I don't have or normally wouldn't pick to broaden things out a bit. Here's what came home with me....

I tried taking pics of this yarn in 6 different places in the house before I got these. This is the closest to the true color of the yarn. Everything I did made the yarns look too blue and there is a bit of green and turquoise in there. Its a colorway called Harrison and I LOVE IT! I cant wait to come up with something for this, although I can see it turning into an Effortless just as well. After we were done we collected our yarns and said our good byes and hit the road back to Kakawa Chocolates. We arrived to wonderful aroma in the air....

I'd never been to a chocolate house before. I love chocolate so this had to be a good thing. While the other ladies ordered chocolate elixirs to drink that had chili and other zippy Meso-American flavors, I remained a bit traditional and went with the American cup. It was dark chocolate with almond milk and Mexican vanilla. Folks, I'm hear to tell ya, if you have a chance to get to a chocolate house like this...and you like chocolate of course...you must do yourself the favor and get there. This was fabulous....

After this lovely afternoon treat we were ready to hit the road back to Albuquerque. I was still planning on going to Dilshani's when I got home to take her a shawl that I had blocked for her along with a plant that had been given to her. I slept on the way home to fuel me for the rest of the evening. When it was all said and done I think I made it home around 9:30 pm. my feet were already swelling and I knew I just had to get them up.

Dilshani's surgery was yesterday (Monday) and while surgery went well there were some serious issues with getting her pain under control. But I can report that she is now resting and recovering at home which, all things considered, is the absolute best place for her to be. Her wonderful husband Dan is a retired Air Force medic and is in nursing school now so she will be well cared for. I called them today to let them know that it will be tomorrow before I can come back. After not getting home until 10:30 last night and with seriously swollen feet, I needed a day of rest myself with my feet up. Having Multicentric Castleman's Disease the biggest battle I face at times is fatigue. So with a completely occupied Sunday and spending Monday at the hospital with Dilshani until she was settled and her pain under control, I've had 2 very full days and I'm wiped out. I'm even bypassing knitting tonight *gasp* because of how I feel. I will knit here at home. I have a wee sweater that I need to start! Like, this Carina Spencer design for a certain wee someone that is due soon...

A little Miss Audrey Grace is doing wonderful! Monday Night Stitch Group was here at the house last night and she took full advantage of everyone here to give her plenty of scritches!

I hope you are all having a nice Tuesday and either already are, or will have a chance to knit today soon! Thanks for stopping by and I will see you all again shortly, until then....Knit On!
