Yarn & Gifts ...

One of the things I always get for Christmas every year is a gift certificate to Village Wools so I can continue to add to my stash. Yesterday was the first time since Christmas that I've had the chance to get over there to do a little shopping. I'll get to that in a little bit...

I was on the lookout for a few things in particular that I cannot discuss or show you at this time, darn it! I'd love to! Let me explain. My Monday Night Stitch Group, and if you are not aware of who these people are, you can read about them here. Every year, we have a gift exchange during the Holiday season. Usually it takes place at the beginning of January so everyone can get past their Christmases and New Year celebrations and have a little sometime extra to look forward to. Its always wonderful. Everyone in the group is so talented and their gifts are often hand made. This year I fell behind the 8 ball and needed extra time to complete mine which is why I cannot really talk about it or show you anything. I can tell you what I received from everyone else though! Sidney made us all another gorgeous beaded ornament to add to our collections...

Lori gave us all wonderful and cute silver cat bookmarks. I couldn't get a decent pic so you'll have to use your imagination. She also hand made this for us...

Since Lisa is allergic to chocolate (shame, I know) she received hand made salted caramel sauce. YUMMY! I cannot wait to try this out on some ice cream soon. Lisa made us each a leaf bowl out of fabric...its pretty cool and beautiful too. Here's what the inside looks like...

And the back side looks like this...

And it has a flat bottom like this...

So you can use it for all sorts of things. Mine currently hold Hershey Kisses! Melanie was like me in that she also fell behind the 8 ball on her handmade items but she gave us this to get us by...

Mom too is hand making each of us something, of which I cannot mention because I may blow it and I don't want to do that. But she got each of us one of these...

It's a really cool pillar candle that looks like its been knitted! Very cool. So while I have been working away at finishing my gifts I have been re-watching this. I'm into season 3 already...

...which I got for Christmas. I love this show. Its one of my favorite shows ever and I didn't have my own set and needed one badly and Santa really came through. I would like to be done for this coming Monday night but that's being a bit adventurous and I may not make that deadline, might have to wait until the following week. We'll see, only time will tell!

So yesterday when I was at Village Wools here's what I got...

I had been needing some sock yarn to add to my stash. Most of the sock yarn I get isn't really sock yarn. Its fingering weight yarn that I would use for shawls regardless of it being marketed as sock yarn. THIS is sock yarn. Love the Berroco Metallic. The Stiletto is the same thing only made by Plymouth. I also added some Malabrigo in one of their new colorways, Ivy, and I LOVE IT! This pic isn't the best but it will do...

Its one of these muddy, mossy, yellowy greens that I really like. It will be a shawl someday. This is a perfect example of yarn marketed as sock yarn but is yarn I would never use to make socks with. It would use it to make shawls. Too good for socks. Sidney gave me the other skein of some DK weight Wooly Wonka in the colorway About Midnight which is a gorgeous deep blue....

These will likely turn into a pair of mitts for me. So that what's new in my world folks. What's happening in yours? Did you get yarn over the Holiday or a gift certificate to get yarn?? Are you still finishing up last minute gifts like me? Would love to hear how you are all doing!

  1. Hi Claudia,

I too got a wool gift voucher for Christmas and I spent it very well. Though I was luck enough to score a sample yarn to test knit for Exquisite Yarns which are an online store based here in Perth, Australia. My friend Lynnie it was her daughter in law that gave me the yarn to test knit for her. I found this a privilege and honor as it is my first time test knitting for some one. On the Christmas front the ladies of our knitting group come to my house now as I can't get there as I have my grandchildren and foster children with me and my husband Maurie works shift work, so I'm luck in the sense that my knitting group now come to me which I love that time of the week it's my special time with very special friends. I have bought a the Cornwal and the Persian Shawls which now I have bought the yarn to knit with to knit them, will post them on Rav for you to see. Hope to hear from you Kim from Perth, Australia xxooxx
