To Whom It May Concern ...

Those of you who know my patterns well know that 'To Whom It May Concern' is a scarf pattern I designed for cancer awareness. As the original was done in pink and released in the month of October, it quickly became synonymous with breast cancer. There are two things I think about at the beginning of October each year. First, I think of the month of October as cancer awareness month...all cancers, not just breast cancer. One of the things I did when I wrote this pattern was include a list of many, many cancers and the colors of ribbons devoted to them. I also suggested that in either camo or yellow yarn this pattern of ribbons could easily be supportive of our troops. I included this list so that people could personalize their scarf. I just wanted to spotlight this particular pattern of mine this month. We have all been affected one way or another by this dreadful disease. Donations upon donations are thrown at this disease and yet we still have no cure. Each 'To Whom It May Concern' pattern that sells during the month of October, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to cancer research. My best friends mother passed away just over a year ago from cancer. All proceeds donated from this will be done so in her name.

To Whom It May Concern is a scarf pattern done in the tradition of the Orenburg knitting style. It is done on a garter stitch background making it fully reversible. Beginning with a provisional cast on, this allows you to come back and knit on the lace edge, also reversible. As I mentioned above, included in the pattern is a list of many, many cancers and the colored ribbons associated with them so you can personalize your scarf. I have been so touched by the stories I've been told by those who have made this pattern. Each one of them stays with me. Just to know that this small thing, a scarf, has made a difference in someones life means so much to me. If you have stories you would like to share, please do so in the comments. The second thing I think about at the beginning of October each year is the Taos Wool Festival in Taos, New Mexico! We have been attending for many years now, long enough that we have created traditions. The Taos weekend is always the first full weekend of the month. We stay at the Old Historic Taos Inn right in the middle of town and close to all the action. We eat at wonderful restaurants and we SHOP the vendors! Several of the vendors there have become wonderful friends and its always nice to see them again. If you are not familiar with the Taos Wool Festival you can check them out here. My next post I will have lots of pictures and stories to tell I'm sure!

For now, for this evening, To Whom It May Concern is whats on my mind. I hope you are all well and are working on lots of projects. Until next time...Knit On!
